Production process

KINDOF’s production process has been devised with great care and precision. The scrupulous attention in each stage is clear right from the selection of the raw material: ribbed rods with the right mechanical, aesthetic and workability qualities are the result of melting quality scrap, eschewing materials from mineral extraction.

The most modern technologies are harnessed in production, especially for the processing of the rods and the 2D cold bending of the frame. A team of specialised artisans then brings their passion and skill to the most delicate and complex stages of the processing: the 3D shaping and welding of the KINDOF-designed mesh made into flat panels by specialist transformers and the creation of metal feet of the best shape for each seat. Finally, each model is carefully ground by hand.

The attention to detail is such that the feet, for instance, are hand-crafted for each seat, the result of the pursuit of the best solution for each model in order to showcase its originality and uniqueness.

Each stage of processing is monitored by specialised workers that have been trained in-house, ensuring the appeal and durability of a product in a production and working environment where sustainability, environmental awareness and the work ethic are key.

You can immerse yourself in each stage from raw material to finished product through a series of photos tracing the creation of the innovative KINDOF product.

The stages of production were captured through the lens of a great master of Italian photography, Francesco Radino.

Our process

1. STORAGE

The “secondary material“, that is the quality scrap, is stored at the steelworks.

2. SELECTION

Scrap is carefully selected and then cleaned and treated in preparation for the next steps.

3. MELTING

Steel is melted in the furnace of the steelworks.

4. CASTING

The result of melting is a semi-finished product (billet), an intermediate product obtained from casting and ready to be processed.

5. LAMINATION

The billet is hot rolled to obtain the rods with the characteristic ribbing required for reinforced concrete.

6. PANELLING

Specialized transformers make the panel using a ribbed rod with a small diameter, exclusively designed by Kindof and specific for each model.

7. CUTTING

The single rod that will form the frame of the product is cut to the appropriate length.

8. 2D FOLDING

The rod is cold bent a first time in a 2D geometry using shaping machines used in the building industry.

9. 3D FOLDING

Expert hands perform a second cold bend to shape the frame in a 3D geometry.

10. PANEL FOLDING

Panels are manually folded according to the geometry of the model.

11. WELDING

For models that require it, panels are manually welded to the frame, with great care.

12. GALVANIZING

Cold galvanizing is performed

13. PAINTING

Several coats of powder paint for outdoor and environmentally friendly paint are applied

14. STORAGE

The part is stored at the finishing plant.

15. DISTRIBUTION

The finished product is ready to be distributed, even without packaging when possible.
